  72.                       Installing PerfectKeys
  73.  
  74. The examples in this section assume you are using WordPerfect 5.1,
  75. that you installed it to a directory named ?:\WP51, and that you
  76. are installing PerfectKeys 5.1.  If you are installing PerfectKeys
  77. 5.0 for use with WordPerfect 5.0 follow the same instructions, but
  78. substitute WP50 for WP51 in the examples.
  79.  
  80. The PerfectKeys installation process involves five steps:
  81.  
  82.   1.Checking your system.  Before beginning the installation process,
  83.     make certain that your computer meets these system requirements:
  84.  
  85.     IBM (or compatible) XT, AT, EISA or PS2 system
  86.     (systems that run WordPerfect DOS versions 5.0 or 5.1)
  87.  
  88.     DOS 2.0 or later version
  89.  
  90.     WordPerfect 5.0 (release date 1-3-89 or later) or
  91.     WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS.
  92.  
  93.     A hard disk with WordPerfect installed that has at least 400k of
  94.     available space.
  95.  
  96.     8K of RAM (Random Access Memory) beyond the requirements of
  97.     WordPerfect 5.0 or 5.1.
  98.  
  99.     A floppy drive capable of reading either a 360k, 5 1/4" or
  100.     720K, 3 1/2" disk.

  102.   2.Preparing for Installation.  This involves determining how
  103.     WordPerfect is set up and choosing a drive on which you want
  104.     to install PerfectKeys.
  105.  
  106.   3.Run PerfectKeys Setup.  Files are copied by the PerfectKeys
  107.     Setup Program from the software disk into the proper directories.
  108.  
  109.   4.Starting PerfectKeys and WordPerfect.

  111.   5.Checking your installation.

  114. Preparing for installation
  115.  
  116.   Before installing PerfectKeys you need to determine the following
  117.   information that you will need during installation:
  118.  
  119.   The version of WordPerfect you are using.  If you're not sure, start
  120.   WordPerfect and press F3.  The WordPerfect version and release date
  121.   will be displayed in the upper right corner of your screen.

  124.   The drive and directory on which WordPerfect is installed.  This is
  125.   the directory in which WP.EXE is located and from which WordPerfect
  126.   is run.

  128.   The drive on which you want PerfectKeys installed.  This can be any
  129.   available hard drive, but we recommend you install PerfectKeys on the
  130.   same drive as WordPerfect.  The PerfectKeys setup program will create
  131.   a directory called ?:\PERFKEY in the root directory of the drive you
  132.   specify.  Make certain that you don't already have a directory with
  133.   this name.

  135.   The drive and directory in which your WordPerfect macros are installed.
  136.   If you aren't sure how WordPerfect is installed on your system, you can
  137.   check your installation by following the steps below:
  138.  
  139.   1.press Shift-F1 (to access WordPerfect's Setup menu).
  140.  
  141.   2.press 6 or L (to access the Location of Files submenu).  The location
  142.     of your Keyboard/Macro files is listed in item 2 of the menu.

  146. PerfectKeys Setup
  147.  
  148.   If you have the information you need from above, installation should
  149.   take less than two minutes.  When you have all the information, begin
  150.   installing PerfectKeys following the steps below:
  151.  
  152.   1.Place the PerfectKeys software disk into an appropriate floppy drive.
  153.  
  154.   2.At a DOS prompt type ?:setup (? is the drive in which you placed the
  155.     software disk).  For example you would type A:SETUP if you placed the
  156.     PerfectKeys disk in drive A:.
  157.  
  158.   3.Press Enter to start the PerfectKeys setup program and begin
  159.     installation.
  160.  
  161.     Answer questions and enter information when you are prompted by the
  162.     setup program.  You will see the following messages/prompts appear on
  163.     your screen during installation:
  164.  
  165.     Enter the version of WordPerfect you are using.
  166.     Enter '0' for version 5.0 or '1' for version 5.1.
  167.  
  168.     Please enter the drive on which to install PerfectKeys.
  169.     For Example: 'C'
  170.  
  171.     Please enter the drive and directory for your WordPerfect macros.
  172.     For Example:  C:\WP51\MACROS
  173.  
  174.     Installation of PerfectKeys is now complete.
  175.          Press any key to return to DOS.
  176.  
  177.   Note:  You can stop the setup/installation process at any point by
  178.   pressing Escape.  On every screen of the setup program you will see
  179.   the message "Press Esc to abort the setup" to remind you how to stop
  180.   installation.

  184.  
  185. The User's Manual for PerfectKeys will be at ?:\PERFKEY, where the ? is
  186. the disk drive that you install PerfectKeys to. The manual is a WP 5.0
  187. file called PK.DOC. It includes instructions on learning to use PerfectKeys,
  188. a Quick Start Quide and a Quick Reference Quide to all the PerfectKeys
  189. commands.
  190.  
  191. When you purchase the licensed version you will receive the printed manual
  192. that includes a full reference section for the various commands. Do to the
  193. length and size of this full reference section it is not included with the
  194. shareware version.
